Snap into Spring! | Week of April 8, 2013 |
Fresh & LocalSpring means planting season! Herbs, vegetable starters, ornamental flowers, and expert advice are just a few of the things at CCFM to get your garden growing. Come see “plant man” Jim Mizell Tuesdays and Saturdays and browse his dazzling array of plants for gardens of every size and purpose; azaleas to zinnias, peppers to parsley! Check out Vintage Gardens selection of interesting peppers, hard to find herbs, and smiling faces Tuesdays and Thursdays. Grow Dat Youth Farm is also blooming on Saturdays with starters. We have something for the green thumb in everyone! |
Pick of the Week: Sugar Snap PeasWe love the satisfying crunch of a sugar snap pea! These tasty green pods are high in both fiber and folic acid, and have a satisfying sweetness that is hard to beat. You can enjoy them dipped in some delicious hummus or pesto, or sauté them with onion, lemon juice and mint for a bright side to your dinner. Check out AJ of Taylor’s Happy Oaks Farm’s beautiful peas on Tuesday or Saturday this week! |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialCafé Hope wowed us last week with their delicious lunch options, and are doing it again this week with Shrimp, Crab & Okra Gumbo w/ Cajun Grains Rice, Two Run Farm Ground Lamb Cabbage Rolls w/ Cajun Grain Rice, Kale & Swiss Chard Salad with Sprouts, Cucumber, Tomato, Shredded Carrots, Tamari Pumpkin Seeds, Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette, and Strawberry Ice Box Pie. Most of their items are gluten-free, which makes them friendly for most diets! |
Recipe of the WeekTurn up dinner this week with this delicious turnip recipe. The cooler weather has kept us in turnips a little longer this year, so enjoy them while you can! This recipe calls for aged cheddar or asiago, both of which you can get from Ryals Rocking R Dairy. Look for turnips from many of our wonderful produce vendors. |
