Sharp knives make happy cooks! | Week of May 6, 2013 |
Fresh & LocalWe are excited to welcome knife-sharpener Doyle Hanson back to market on Tuesdays for your culinary needs. A sharp knife makes all the difference in prepping and cooking a delicious meal. Can’t make it to Tuesday? Arthur Jones is always at Saturday market, ready to help. Both of our great knife-sharpener vendors also sharpen scissors and yard tools. These guys keep us looking sharp at CCFM! |
Pick of the Week: Leeks!AJ of Taylor Happy Oaks Farm has beautiful leeks right now. Leeks are part of the same family as garlic and onion, and have a mild, onion-like taste. Use them to liven up a stock, add them to a stir-fry, or raw in a salad for a flavor punch. They can even be fried! Leeks are high in Vitamin K, iron and folate, making them a delicious and healthy addition to any meal. Happy Oaks Farm Leeks can be found at Tuesday, and Saturday markets (we hear they may be making a return to Thursday market as well!). |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialThanks to Café Hope for a great April! In May we welcome Taceaux Loceaux to the Green Plate Special Tent. We love the tasty tacos and side items they serve from the side of their colorful food truck. This Tuesday choose from their Messin’ with Texas brisket taco, Delta Prawn shrimp taco, Jane Deaux greens taco, or a delicious Sopa de Fresa Colombian strawberry soup. With choices like that, lunch at the market is a no-brainer! |
Recipe of the WeekWe are seeing a bit more crabmeat these days, so why not take advantage and prepare this unique Curried Crab Pilaf with Coconut Milk? With many of the ingredients available at market, this dish is fresh and delicious. Be on the lookout for more crabs and crabmeat at market in the coming weeks (the unseasonably chilly weather kept them away longer than usual this year). |
