pick of the week

Pick of the Week: Greens!

Every week we are seeing more and more greens and to us that means one thing: fall is on the way. While the weather may not feel like it, walking around the market certainly does. This sweet spot in the growing calendar means we still have some summer crops, like eggplants and peppers, while also enjoying fall crops like potatoes and greens. Grab a bag of arugula for salads, or some mustard greens for supper, and enjoy the market bounty! Be on the lookout for more greens in the coming weeks: tat soi, bok choi, kale, swiss chard and more.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

Thanks to Rue Chow for keeping us fed, deliciously, last week! This week we welcome La Cocinita food truck to the Green Plate Special. This week choose from Market Arepas, stuffed with chile-roasted squash, kale and black bean relish, and goat cheese (add some brisket if you want!), a variety of tasty tacos, and a side of rice and beans. Finish your lunch with a watermelon-mint agua fresca and an apple-dulce de leche bread pudding. Lunch doesn’t get much tastier!

Saints season is here! Football and gumbo go hand in hand, so this week why not make a big batch of Angelina’s Poor Man’s Gumbo for game watching? Do you have a favorite recipe that we should include in our recipe of the week? Send it to markets@marketumbrella.org and we’ll include some of our favorites!
