CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET | MARKET MORSELS http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org What's popping up at CCFM this week? | Week of September 16, 2013 ******************************************************************************** FRESH & LOCAL This Saturday is chock-full of activity! In addition to music by The Swamp Lillies, we will have special guest pop-up book extraordinaire, Robert Sabuda, at market to sign books and talk about pop-ups. A pop-up book workshop hosted by New Orleans Glassworks will help children and adults learn how to create their own paper art. This event will run from 10am-12pm, so come out early to shop and stay for the fun! We are excited to welcome Brian Manning to our market team as Food Access Outreach Coordinator. Brian comes to us through Louisiana Delta Service Corp, an organization we are thrilled to partner with. Brian's passion for service has led him from Native American reservations, to communities in Oakland, and now the beautiful city of New Orleans. Say hello to Brian next time you are at market! http://theswamplilies.com/ https://www.robertsabuda.com/ http://www.neworleansglassworks.com/ ******************************************************************************** PICK OF THE WEEK: Cuban Black Beans! Ben Burkett, Southern Mississippi farmer and member of the Indian Springs Farmers Cooperative, is a well-traveled man. Recently, Ben traveled to Cuba to explore their rich culinary landscapes. Upon his return, Ben came back with a serious appreciation for the staple legume in Cuban cuisine, the Cuban black bean. Ben is now growing bushels of Cuban black beans which he says will be available for the next three weeks at most Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday markets. Be sure to come out and pack your vegetarian diet with the protein and iron it needs or just get your kitchen geared up for your next fiesta with some fine Cuban black beans, available both dried and "green", from Ben Burkett and the rest of the Indian Springs Farmers! ******************************************************************************** TUESDAY'S GREEN PLATE SPECIAL This week, La Cocinita will wow us with the following: CCFM veggie tacos: white corn tortillas with roasted sweet potatoes, queso fresco, black bean/kale salad, & salsa verde, or a mango quesillo, venezuelan flan or apple-dulce de leche bread pudding. Finish your meal with a refreshing watermelon-lime agua fresca. Yum! https://www.facebook.com/LaCocinitaFoodTruck ******************************************************************************** RECIPE OF THE WEEK Rejoice! Greens are back at market. Everyone has their own way to cook up a mess of greens, but this recipe for Southern Cooked Greens, calling for hot sauce and a bottle of Dixie beer, is unmistakeably New Orleans! http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=recipe-of-the-week ******************************************************************************** UPTOWN 200 Broadway Street near the River Tuesday September 17 | 9 am - 1 pm MID-CITY 3700 Orleans Avenue near the Bayou Thursday September 19 | 3 pm - 7 pm DOWNTOWN 700 Magazine Street at Girod Street Saturday September 21 | 8 am - noon ******************************************************************************** MARKETMATCH http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=market-match PURCHASE OPTIONS AT THE MARKET http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=purchase-options SUPPORT THE CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET "http://www.marketumbrella.org/market/support_us.html MARKETEERS http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=marketeers-club ******************************************************************************** LIKE US ON FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/pages/Crescent-City-Farmers-Market/12780011170 FOLLOW US ON TWITTER https://twitter.com/ccfmtweets TAKE A LOOK ON INSTAGRAM http://instagram.com/crescentcityfarmersmkt
