New Orleans con Sabor Latino signing and more this week at CCFM! |
Fresh & LocalSaturday, November 9, we are excited to host a book signing for the delicious new book, New Orleans con Sabor Latino: The History and Passion of Latino Cooking. This fantastic book celebrates the history and culture of latino food in New Orleans through the eyes of thirteen New Orleans Latinos of diverse backgrounds and stories. The cookbook includes a lagniappe section of New Orleans recipes from a Latin perspective. Such creations as seafood paella with shrimp boudin, Puerto Rican po'boy ("jibarito") with grillades, and Cuban chicken soup bring to life this delicious mix of traditional recipes and new flavors. If you can’t make it to the signing, this gift-ready book is available at Octavia Books. |
Pick of the Week: Asian greens! We all love kale, mustard greens, and collard greens, but have you tried bok choy or tatsoi? These lovely tender greens are a fun change for your plate. Rich in vitamin A (one cup is 100% of your recommended dietary allowance!), both bok choy and tatsoi are tasty members of the brassilica family, known for broccoli and cauliflower. Because of their mild, tender flavor, they are great in stir-frys, soups, and eaten raw. Many of our farmers have these greens, so pick up some at any of our markets and give something new a try this week! |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialNovember brings us Anne Churchill and her fantastic new restaurant, Bhava! These vegan choices are mouth-watering and delicious. This week, Anne brings us a choice of khmer pumpkin curry soup, tofu crab cakes over lettuces with shiso vinaigrette and garlic cream, roasted market veggie sandwich on Belle Garde ciabatta with arugula pesto and tofu ricotta or grillades and grits. For the dessert lover, nothing is better than her molten chocolate cakes with cashew cream. Make CCFM your standing lunch date in November! |
Recipe of the WeekIt’s officially soup season! When the weather cools and the days get shorter, we love to fix a pot of soup. This White Bean, Greens, and Roasted Mushroom Soup can use any of your favorite CCFM greens, along with earthy mushrooms from Mississippi Natural Products for a healthy, filling soup. |
