CRESCENT CITY FARMERS MARKET | MARKET MORSELS http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org Holiday prep at CCFM | Week of November 11, 2013 ******************************************************************************** FRESH & LOCAL Everywhere is ramping up for the holidays, and CCFM is no different. We know holiday meal planning can be daunting, so we are bringing in the experts to help you out with our Holiday Recipe Roundup! Join us as some of our favorite libraries bring their extensive cookbook collections to market for you to peruse. We will have recipe cards on hand for you to copy a recipe or inspiration and get your menus ready. We think looking at cookbooks, surrounded by market and beautiful foods, is perfect and offers you the chance to ask your favorite vendor if an ingredient is available, pre-order your side items, and get in the holiday spirit! Tuesday, November 12, we welcome Rosa Keller Library, while November 19 and 23 brings SoFab's Culinary Library and Archive. Try a new recipe this year and wow your friends and family! https://www.facebook.com/KellerBranch http://southernfood.org/culinary-library/ This Saturday, join CCFM and other great CBD businesses for Homegrown for the Holidays, a celebration of all things homegrown, local, and funky. Start your day at market for groceries and music by Pat Reedy and the Long Time Goners, then head out to explore area businesses and events, like the Fall Fashion Bazaar, the New Orleans Book Fair + Media Expo, and the grand opening of Cafe Carmo's cocktail bar. We hope you will join us in supporting local businesses and events. Fresh ginger is all the rage right now, as evidenced by this NPR story, and we are tickled pink (pun intended) to see it on the table of Vintage Garden Farm at market. This tender gnarled jewel is best when grown locally and sold quickly, so buying it at market is ideal. A far cry from it's dry and browned aged cousin, this ginger is delicate yet robust and a beautiful blush color. You can use it in tea (great with market lemons and honey to beat a cold), stir-fry, candied, or even juiced for a kick to your morning oj or homemade juices. It required no peeling, so just slice and use. You can find Vintage Garden Farm's fresh ginger at our Tuesday and Thursdays markets. http://www.npr.org/2013/10/16/234888648/tickled-pink-fresh-young-ginger-is-a-sweet-break-from-gnarled-roots https://www.facebook.com/VintageGardenFarm?directed_target_id=0 ******************************************************************************** TUESDAY'S GREEN PLATE SPECIAL Anne Churchill wowed us last week with her delicious vegan fare, and this week is no different. Look forward to your choice of Sri Lankan borscht; an exciting bahn mi redux with walnut lentil pate, marinated grilled mushrooms, pickled veggies, and creamy mayo on poboy bread; a selection of veggie quiches; or a market fresh salad. Finish the meal with a rich molten chocolate cake with cashew cream. Being meat free has never tasted so good. ******************************************************************************** RECIPE OF THE WEEK Drink to your health when the weather gets chilly with this healthy Winter Market Juice recipe, courtesy of November's Green Plate Special chef, Anne Churchill. Greens, turmeric, ginger, beets and citrus are all available at market now, and make this juice healthy, tasty, and filling! http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=recipe-of-the-week ******************************************************************************** UPTOWN 200 Broadway Street near the River Tuesday November 12 | 9 am - 1 pm MID-CITY 3700 Orleans Avenue near the Bayou Thursday November 14 | 3 pm - 7 pm DOWNTOWN 700 Magazine Street at Girod Street Saturday November 16 | 8 am - noon ******************************************************************************** MARKETEERS http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=marketeers-club PURCHASE OPTIONS AT THE MARKET http://www.crescentcityfarmersmarket.org/index.php?page=purchase-options MARKETUMBRELLA.ORG http://www.marketumbrella.org/ DONATE http://www.marketumbrella.org/market/support_us.html ******************************************************************************** LIKE US ON FACEBOOK http://www.facebook.com/pages/Crescent-City-Farmers-Market/12780011170 FOLLOW US ON TWITTER https://twitter.com/ccfmtweets TAKE A LOOK ON INSTAGRAM http://instagram.com/crescentcityfarmersmkt
