Fresh & LocalThis week we welcome Southern Food and Beverage (SoFab) Culinary Library and Archive to Tuesday and Saturday markets as part of our Holiday Recipe Roundup. Their beautiful and vast new literary collection contains over 11,000 volumes of cookbooks and over 5,000 menus, as well as recipes, archival documents and other literature pertaining to the food and food ways of the American South, all collected by the Southern Food and Beverage Museum. They will be bringing a carefully curated selection for you to peruse for your holiday planning! Can’t make it to market? Visit their library at 1609 O.C Haley Blvd and spend a few hours in their shelves, learning from cooking greats. More information on SoFab’s library can be found here. |
Pick of the Week: Grits! When Stacy Bonnecaze, daughter of late vendor “Papa Tom” Bonnecaze, said she would like to come back to market to continue the tradition of locally milled grits, fresh seasonings and more, we couldn’t believe our luck! Stacy is now officially back at Tuesday market with her family’s delicious grits, fish fry, Louisiana-grown dried paprika, stoneground cornmeal, oatmeal and more. Just in time for the holidays and cold weather, she also has gumbo file, a true Louisiana staple. We love to see food traditions continue and this is no exception. Stop by and welcome her back to market Tuesday morning. Photo: can you make the Got Grits one attached little? I don’t want the truck showing (she is not bringing it), just the words got grits, or even grits. |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialAnne Churchill has done it again; amazed us with her meat-free meals, and she is back for a few more weeks to keep it coming at market. This week enjoy your choice of shiitake mushroom, caramelized onions and arugula quiche; eggplant parmesan-ish with pasta; beans and greens soup, or cannolis. Her market salad will feature Louisiana citrus, sprouts, greens, coriander cumin pumpkin seeds. Wish her a hearty congrats on the opening of her vegan/vegetarian new restaurant, Bhava, located above Feelings Café in the Marigny. Check out this Eater NOLA article all about Bhava and get ready to enjoy her food on non-market days! |
Recipe of the WeekJacques Imo’s Creole Stuffed Tomatoes! Thanks to our wonderful hothouse tomato growers, Cajun Growers and Tomott’s Produce, we can enjoy delicious tomatoes year-round. Ask one of our chicken vendors if they have chicken livers in stock, grab a bell pepper from one of our produce vendor tables and make this delicious meal market fresh! |
