Happy Thanksgiving from CCFM | Week of November 25, 2013

Fresh & Local

This is it: countdown to the biggest cooking day of the year! Are you ready? If not, we can help. We will have a bustling market Tuesday, chock full of all your holiday meal planning needs (and something for those of you who decide you would rather hang out at the track than cook on Thursday!). Strawberries, hothouse tomatoes, pies, breads, citrus, pecans, meat, seafood, dairy, produce and more available for your holiday table or oven. As a reminder, CCFM will not be open Thursday, November 28. We hope everyone has a safe, delicious, and happy Thanksgiving.

Pick of the Week: Poppy Tooker!

Just in time for the holiday kick-start, we are excited to welcome food superstar Poppy Tooker to market Tuesday, November 26. Poppy is author of The Crescent City Farmers Market Cookbook, Madame Begue’s Recipe’s of Old New Orleans Creole Cookery, and her latest, Louisiana Eats! She is also the voice of Louisiana Eats! on WWNO, as well as a local foods advocate and cooking teacher extraordinaire. Any or all of her fantastic books make a perfect gift for the food lover on your list, so come out Tuesday and knock a few folks off your holiday list!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We are sad to say that this is the last week for chef Anne Churchill of Bhava under the GPS tent. She helps us say goodbye to November and get ready for Thanksgiving with this weeks great menu. Enjoy your choice of French onion soup with gruyere-ish croutons; citrus salad with frisée, boston lettuce, and spiced pepitas; her popular mushroom banh mi; or a hearty fall market plate of grilled marinated broccoli, wild rice with satsuma cranberry relish, roasted baby sweet potatoes and tziziki sauce. For your breakfast shopping needs she will have a market fresh quiche. For dessert? How about a little pre-holiday pumpkin pie?

Recipe of the Week

It’s not Thanksgiving in New Orleans without Oyster Dressing. Every family has their own favorite version, but this one comes from Frank Davis’s Creole sidekick Mary Clare. Featured as part of “Franksgiving” dinner specials on WWL-TV, Mary Clare’s recipe includes sage, personal advice in the instructions. Her remarks will make you feel as though you’re getting a cooking lesson from your Creole grandmother!
