It’s sweeter at the market! | Week of February 3, 2014

Fresh & Local

Carnival Season is upon us, and hopefully the worst of winter is behind us. Some people would even call Mardi Gras season “King Cake Season” for all the tasty cakes in every restaurant, shop, and bakery. Here at CCFM, we were excited and intrigued to hear about Rivista’s king cakes from around the world, including the delicious Mexican king cake, “rosca de reyes”. This traditional cake is dense but moist, studded with dried fruit and topped with a rum glaze. Preorder a full-sized one for the family, or pick up an individually sized one at market Saturday. Can’t make it to market? Visit Rivista’s Magazine St location for this and other delicious pastries and meals! Stay tuned for profiles of our other fantastic king cake vendors.

Pick of the Week: Strawberry jam!

Strawberry season is in full swing and Anita of White Wood Farms has delicious, locally produced and locally sourced strawberry jam at market. Her jam uses only the freshest Ponchatoula strawberries, picked at seasons’ peak and is made with care to ensure a delicious, quality jam. We all love jam on a warm biscuit, but have you tried it on top of a cheesecake or warm brie? Try folding it into muffins or cookies before baking for some extra Louisiana flavor! White Wood Farms can be found at our Saturday market and most Tuesdays.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We are thrilled to announce the Hillel’s Kitchen will be with us again for February. Come enjoy the (hopefully) warmer weather and a healthy lunch at Tuesday market. Your choices include falafel in pita with israeli salad, a cup of roasted tomato soup with quinoa, a slice of banana bread, or some flavorful hot chai tea.
