With Mardi Gras coming into full swing and Lent just around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about those tasty Friday fish fries and seafood boils. Make a commitment to supporting local fishing families this Lenten season by signing up for a Crescent City Supported Fisheries subscription today. Subscriptions are available with Pete and Clara’s Seafood (pick-up available at Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday markets) and Four Winds Seafood (pick-up available at Tuesday and Saturday markets. A $100 subscription reserves 6 weekly shares (feeds two adults) of fresh local seafood, starting March 6th. Pick of the Week: Sea Bream!

While folks around the country are bracing themselves for the meatless Fridays of Lent, we here in the Crescent City are gearing up for a seafood celebration! A market favorite is Sea Bream, also known as Sheepshead, and is a fish that we’ll frying (grilling, sautéing, baking) all Lent long. This whitefish is a perfect meat substitute not just during Lent, but all year round thanks to its low saturated fat content and high level of protein. You can pick up some Sea Bream at most Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday markets from Pete & Clara’s Seafood.
