Mmmmmardi Gras! | March 3, 2014 |
Fresh & LocalHappy Mardi Gras! Market will be closed this Tuesday for Fat Tuesday festivities. We wish you all a safe and fun Carnival filled with plenty of good friends, family, and food! After the mists of Mardi Gras have cleared, we’ll be back to business as usual at our Thursday market, and we’ll be looking forward to kicking off our 2014 CSF. Sign-ups are still available with both Four Winds Seafood and Clara and Pete’s Seafood so be sure to sign-up for your fresh seafood shares just in time for Lent! |
Pick of the Week: Shrimp!Eating these famous crustaceans down here is a way of life. And with our Lenten CSF gearing up, it’s a great time to fill your fridge with them! While they have a higher level of cholesterol than other seafood, we can’t overlook the benefits they bring to our diets as well, such as their crazy high level of anti-oxidants! We’re so glad to have dedicated fisherman selling wild Louisiana shrimp at all of our markets, such as Ray and Kay Brandhurst from Four Winds Seafood, who you can find at most Tuesday and Saturday markets. |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialWe’re closed this Tuesday, but are looking forward to having Rue Chow join us for the rest of March as our GPS vendors! |
Recipe of the WeekThere are a lot of ways to eat shrimp, but one of our favorites is with some crispy fried green tomatoes. This recipe for Fried Green Tomatoes with Shrimp Remoulade is a great guide for doing so. After you’ve got your shrimp, pick up some unripe green tomatoes from Tomott’s Farm (https://www.facebook.com/tomotts.sanamo) or the Ledet’s and some tasty fish fry to fry them in from Stacy Bonnecaze of Papa Tom’s Grits and you’ll be on your way! |
