Lent is Easy at CCFM | March 10, 2014 |
Fresh & LocalMardi Gras has come and gone another year, leaving many of us tired, wet, and ready for Spring. As Lent leads us into (hopefully) warm Spring weather, we know some folks are thinking about what to give up these next few weeks. Fear not! Giving up ice cream? Try a fresh fruit popsicle from Amanda at our Tuesday or Saturday markets. Turning your back on pizza delivery? Pick up pesto from Pesto Paul and some farmhouse cheese from Rocking R Dairy at our Tuesday and Saturday markets. Worried about meatless Fridays? How about some fish, shrimp, or crabmeat, available at all three markets? Go ahead Lent, give us your best shot. |
Pick of the Week: Crab! Our 2014 CSF is officially underway! In honor of its return, we felt it was only appropriate to highlight one of our favorite catches, crab! Crabs are a huge part of our seafood economy down here in South Louisiana, and are a catch you can count on seeing at most markets from our three dedicated seafood vendors. Not only is it tasty, but crabmeat is a natural source of omega-3 fatty acids which can help in improving your memory. On that note, don’t forget it’s not too late to sign up for a weekly CSF share! Stop by Four Winds Seafood or Pete and Clara’s Seafood at market to sign up this week! |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialWe’re excited to welcome Rue Chow as our GPS vendors this month! They’re bringing a serious menu with them this week including Korean BBQ chicken pitas with fresh carrots, cucumbers and cilantro, sliced roast beef sandwiches with grilled onions and herbed cheese on housemade rosemary focaccia, seasonal local salads, pate with local jam and crostinis, garlic fries, and seasonal desserts for your sweet tooth! Be sure to come hungry! |
Recipe of the WeekThere are so many delicious ways to prepare crab. Whether it’s a fried soft-shell po-boy, a mound of crab cakes, or a piping hot crab straight from the boil, it’s all good. But have you ever had crab with coconut milk? We love this Curried Crab Pilaf with Coconut Milk recipe from Chef Susan Spicer. It’s a tasty dish with a Carribean twist that has kept us remaking it over and over! |
