Our big idea? Supporting locally! | March 17, 2014

Fresh & Local

Come out to celebrate and support this year’s most promising New Orleans Startups, including market vendor, Locally Preserved at New Orleans Entrepreneur Week’s big finale, The Big Idea! As many of you already know, Locally Preserved, formerly known as Feed Me Eat Pretty, is a New Orleans-based food startup that produces all-natural cocktail mixers, simple and fruit syrups, and ‘sweetless’ jams and jellies with five ingredients or less by preserving seasonal, local produce. We love having Emily at market and are thrilled to support her in the world’s largest crowd driven pitch event! The Big Idea’s festival event takes place Friday, March 28 in Fulton Square. Give Emily your support while celebrating the great entrepreneurial spirit in our city!

Pick of the Week: An Edible Evening!

Keep your eyes peeled at market this week for our friends from Edible Schoolyard New Orleans. They’ll be setting up shop at Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday markets in promotion of their annual fundraiser, An Edible Evening. The event on March 27th will be a great time filled with plenty of food and libations from 36 local restaurants and music to keep your toes tappin’ too! All proceeds go to supporting ESY NOLA’s garden, kitchen, and wellness education programming at five FirstLine Schools. Folks from ESY NOLA will be selling advance tickets for $45 at market all week so be sure to stop on by and make an investment in a good time and a good cause! For more information on the event, check out ESY NOLA’s website.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

Rue Chow wowed us last week with their exciting lunch menu. With crowd pleasers like Korean BBQ Chicken Pitas, Pate and Local Jam Crostinis, Garlic Fries, and Cheesecake we can’t wait to see what they’ll be bringing this week!

The CCFM seafood fest continues! Those folks participating in Pete and Clara’s seafood CSF shares were pleased to get black drum filets in their share last week. This Sauteed Drum with Spinach, Oysters, Shiitakes, and Tasso recipe is a great way to use those drum filets while enjoying other delicious Louisiana foods. Pick up a pint of shiitakes from Mississippi Natural Products and some nutritious drum filets, a great source of Vitamin B, from one of our fishers this week.
