Eat Local at CCFM! | March 24, 2014

Fresh & Local

CCFM is excited to announce our partnership with Nola Locavores for the 2014 Eat Local Challenge (ELC)! Now in it’s 4th year, the ELC encourages and challenges New Orleanians to eat, as much as possible, food grown, harvested, caught, raised, and hand-made within 200 miles of the City during the month of June. Learn more (including about all of the ELC's wonderful sponsors!) at the Eat Local Challenge website. Ready to take the challenge? Sign-up starts next week at any of our three markets. Stay tuned for more details about events, sponsors, and help on how to make eating locally fun, healthy and easy!

pick of the week

Pick of the Week: SoFAB!

We’re excited to welcome back the Southern Food and Beverage Museum to market this Saturday and next Tuesday, April 1st! SoFAB will be out at both markets with plenty of fun activities for the marketeers in your lives including recipe card making with a collection of kids’ cookbooks from their Culinary Library & Archive. They’ll also be accepting donations of kids’ cookbooks, so if you know any former children that have outgrown theirs and would like to contribute to SoFAB’s growing archive of culinary history, bring them by! To learn more about SoFAB and all their exciting programs check out www.southernfood.org or come by and see them at market!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

This Tuesday will be Rue Chow’s last market as this month’s GPS vendors, and while we’re sad to see them go, we can’t wait for the delicious menu they’ll be serving up! They’ll be dishing out Korean BBQ Chicken Pitas, Smoked Pork Loin Sandwiches on Rosemary Focaccia, Pate with Local Jam and Crostinis, Vegetarian White Bean and Roasted Garlic Soup, Garlic Fries, and something sweet for dessert, so be sure to come out hungry and grab some lunch with us!

Recipe of the Week

Crawfish season is here! We have spotted a few sacks of them on Miss Jeannie’s table at Tuesday market and couldn’t be happier. Make her your first stop at the Tuesday Market for the Louisiana crawfish tails you'll need for this Crawfish Kowalski. Then pick up a pack of smoked sausage from Isabel Mendez, butter and cream from Progress Milk Barn and a bunch of green onions from one of our fantastic produce vendors. There are bunches and bunches of them at the market right now.
