Fresh & Local

We’re happy to announce that Crescent City Farmers Market will be participating in the first annual GiveNOLA Day on May 6th! GiveNOLA Day is a one-day online giving event hosted by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, organized with the goal to inspire people to give to the non-profits that help our community thrive. From midnight to midnight on May 6th, the dollars donated to CCFM will be ‘boosted’ with a portion of over $200,00 in “lagniappe funds” and prize dollars. We will have lots of fun, fantastic events at market that day; the perfect chance to participate in the exciting programs you will be supporting like Marketeers, student and senior citizen field trips to market, and more. So, if you’re thinking of giving to CCFM this year, consider participating in GiveNOLA Day on May 6 and showing your support for the market! You can go ahead and bookmark the page here. It is with support like yours that we can continue to connect New Orleanians of all ages to the wonderful, healthy food grown, caught, and raised here.

pick of the week

Pick of the Week:
The Crescent City Classic!

The Crescent City Classic will be running through the streets of New Orleans this Saturday, April 19th at 8 a.m. This race is a great time for many of us, but it does make getting to market trickier than normal. All of Poydras will be closed on race day, so if you normally come down Magazine st. from Poydras or Canal st., you’ll need to reroute. The best route will be taking the Ponchatrain Expressway to the Carondalet/St. Charles Ave. exit, then follow Calliope to Camp st. Take a left onto Camp and then a right on Girod, and you’ll find us running market as usual at 700 Magazine St. on the corner of Magazine and Girod. It should be a great day at market filled with beautiful Spring produce and live music so be sure to plan accordingly and come on out!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

Domenica rocked it last week with their lunch menu! We heard people talking about their Smoked Trout bruschetta all day. This week’s menu is looking mighty fine too: Hot Sausage and Ryals Farm House Cheddar biscuit ($10) Shaved Brussels Sprout Salad ($5) Spinach, Tomato and Ryals Asiago frittata ($5), Braised Greens, Polenta and Cotechino ($5), and Robertas Strawberry Galette ($5). Be sure to come out hungry on Tuesday!

What do you do with a profusion of green tomatoes? Here is a way to enjoy the unripened beauties for dessert! If this Green Tomato Cake recipe sounds like a winner to you, visit our greenhouse tomato vendors Cajun Growers (Tuesday and Saturday markets) and Tomotts (Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday markets) to pick up some lovely green tomatoes.
