GiveNOLA Day Celebration with CCFM! | May 5, 2014 |
Fresh & LocalWe can’t wait to celebrate GiveNola Day this Tuesday, May 6th at our Uptown Market! In celebration of this special day, we will be highlighting the talents of our farmers and food producers all market long, from 9-1pm. There will be product sampling (strawberries, cornbread, and strawberry shortcake!), flower arranging demos, farmers market bingo, story time for kids and even a lamb petting zoo with Bill Ryals! This will also be a great time to see some of our community programming in action. We’ll have Audubon Charter School and Sylvanie Williams College Prep Elementary out participating in the educational scavenger hunt, strawberry tastings, and food themed fitness games we offer for school groups, as well as a healthy eating workshop with holistic nutritionist Danielle Paciera! We’ll be accepting GiveNOLA Day donations all market long under our hospitality tent, where refreshments will be provided and more information on our other programs like Senior Farmers Market BINGO, Market Match, and our Food insecure nutrition incentive program will all be available. Donations to CCFM can also be made all day Tuesday from 12:01am – 11:59pm at http://www.givenola.org/#npo/market-umbrella-crescent-city-farmers-market. For a detailed schedule of all events happening, check out the Tuesday market page. Thanks for all the support, and we hope to see you at market on GiveNOLA Day! |

Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialWe’re in for a treat this month with Empanada Intifada joining us as our GPS vendors for the month of May! They’ll be coming to our Tuesday market all month dishing out their unique empanada creations and side dishes. Check out this week’s lunch menu; Empanadas: Mestizo Meat Pie, Hispankopita (Spinach and Chevre goat cheese), Pibil Carnitas (Pulled pork with house made citrus-annato rub), Bean-a Vista Social Club (Cuban style black beans with fried plantain). All Empanadas are accompanied with a house made sauce and cartido cabbage salad. Sides: Pablano-Cream Mac and Cheese and Sesame Quinoa Salad. |
Recipe of the WeekWith Eggplants making their way into season and with the exciting addition of the VEGGI Farmers Co-op to our CCFM vendor family, we can think of no better time to use this Vegan Eggplant Tomato Napoleon recipe from Chef Anne Churchill. Isn’t it nice when you can source everything you need for a recipe from market? |
