Getting Fit with CCFM! | June 23, 2014

Fresh & Local

Come out and visit us after market on June 28 from 1-7 PM at Taylor Park for the Hoffman Triangle Family Fest! All part of the Fit NOLA initiative to promote physical activity and healthy eating in the New Orleans community, we will be hosting a tasting of fresh blueberries from our market. If that isn’t reason enough to come out and see us, there will also be other free healthy food options along with music by DJ Captain Charles, a senior dance fitness class, and a 3-on-3 teen basketball tournament! It’s bound to be a great afternoon for families of all ages. Click here for more information, and we hope to see you there!

pick of the week

Pick of the Week: Lettuce!

It sure is getting hot outside, but that’s not stopping some of our hydroponic growers from producing some beautiful summertime lettuce! By carefully managing their systems, many hydroponic growers are able to keep this sensitive green growing all year-round, despite tough temperatures in the summer and winter. Not only is lettuce an extremely low calorie food option, it’s also a great source of vitamins K and A. Not a big salad fan? Try making a healthy chicken or veggie lettuce wrap, or blending some into a refreshing summer gazpacho. Come on out and grab some beautiful hydroponic lettuces from our Tuesday vendor, Brian Bricker of Brickwall Farms, or from the VEGGI co-op on Thursdays!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We’ve had a great time with Maurepas as our Green Plate Special this month! Our staff is still raving about the duck sausage sandwiches from last week, and looking forward to seeing what’s on their final menu this Tuesday. Be sure to come on out and grab a plate, and stay tuned for food from new Uptown restaurant Carrollton Market next Tuesday!
