Celebrate National Farmers Week with CCFM! | August 4, 2014

Fresh & Local

That’s right people, it’s officially National Farmers Market Week and we can’t contain our excitement about it! Help us celebrate all week long, August 3rd – 9th, as we join thousands of markets from around the country in celebration of all that we love about farmers markets. At all three markets we’ll have tastings and recipe cards for fresh summer snacking, and a special Marketeers activity on Saturday too!

What is it you love most about farmers markets? Getting to know your producer and where your food is from? Learning and sharing recipes and growing techniques? Meeting new friends and reuniting with old neighbors? There’s so much to love, but we want to know what YOU love most about the market. All week long you can share your reasons for loving the market with us on Twitter (@ccfmtweets) or Instagram (@crescentcityfarmersmkt) with the hashtag #nfmweek for a chance to win a summer produce basket filled with CCFM staff favorites from around market! Be sure to come on out and celebrate with us, and Happy National Farmers Market Week!

Pick of the Week: Figs!

Figs have arrived at market! This much anticipated summer fruit has started propping up at all of our weekly markets, ready to be incorporated into a slew of your favorite summer dishes. Not sure how to prepare figs? Try dicing them up and adding them to your favorite salad or baking them into your breads. Looking for something a little sweeter? Fig’s natural sweetness makes them easy to incorporate into your pies, ice cream sundaes and smoothies. No need to feel guilty either; figs are full of essential nutrients and vitamins ,including Potassium and Omega 3, that will keep your cardiovascular system reinvigorated. Figs are also known to help reduce cholesterol, regulate your digestive system and reduce the risk of certain types of cancer. What more could you ask for? Snack away!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We’re excited to welcome Breads On Oak as our GPS vendors for the month of August! Open since June of 2012, Breads On Oak focuses on serving high quality artisanal breads made to “taste the way real bread used to taste like.” They also serve up an impressive list of vegan and gluten-free muffins, cakes, and other pastries, as well as soups and sandwiches from their 8640 Oak St. location. We can’t wait to see what they serve up at market. Come by this Tuesday to check it out for yourself!
