New Year Resolutions Start at the CCFM | January 5, 2015 |
Fresh & LocalIf your New Year resolution is to get more involved in your community, we'd love to help you with that, and your help at the farmers market! CCFM is looking for folks who can ideally commit to volunteering on a weekly basis at our Tuesday Uptown, Wednesday French Market, Thursday Mid-City and Saturday Downtown farmers markets. Less frequent help is also welcome and very much appreciated. Volunteers activities include giving us a hand under the welcome tent with beverage sales, assisting with kids activities and school field trips to the market, and attending community outreach events with us. Interested? Please email andrew at marketumbrella.org. |
Pick of the Week: Grapefruit! These sweet, tart winter friends are all over the market right now and great additions to your healthier eating in 2015 menu planning. High in vitamin C and antioxidant powerhouses, grapefruit are delicious in salads, juices and glazes for pork tenderloins and chicken. We also love them sliced in half, topped with a thin layer of Louisiana raw cane sugar and bruléed with a kitchen torch or under the broiler. Grab a sack from one of our three Louisiana citrus vendors, A&K, L'Hoste and Star Nursery, and enjoy them piled high in a bowl as a beautiful centerpiece until you're ready to eat them. |
Tuesday’s Green Plate SpecialThis month we welcome St. Clair Wood Fired Pizza to the market on Tuesdays. They're having some mechanical issues with their truck, but are keeping us posted about their attendance this Tuesday. Fingers crossed that it's a quick fix. Stay tuned for details and other updates by following us on Twitter @ccfmtweets, Instagram @crescentcityfarmersmkt and Facebook. |
Recipe of the WeekThe market is bursting at the seams with greens right now - collards, mustards, red mustards, Chinese mustards, turnips, you name it. Pick up a few different bunches this week for Gumbo Z'herbes. This recipe, courtesy of the Gumbo Shop, also includes red beans. It doesn't get more New Orleans than that! |
