So Much to Celebrate in the Spring! | May 11, 2015 |
Fresh & LocalDear Friends, Last week, Chef Alon Shaya, one of our organization’s strongest supporters, received the pinnacle distinction of his craft, a James Beard Award for Best Chef: South. I have had the pleasure of knowing Alon for three years, and in that time he has not only added two new restaurants, Pizza Domenica and Shaya, to his repertoire, but he has also volunteered his time and talents on behalf of Market Umbrella and the Crescent City Farmers Market. As a member of our Community Advisory Team, Alon advises us on everything from social media strategy to vendor selection. He personally shops at our markets, volunteers at our events and sources food for his restaurants from our vendors. So, while we all know about his talents in the kitchen, I want to make sure you also know that Alon is also a strong supporter of this market community. From all of us at Market Umbrella and the Crescent City Farmers Market, congratulations, Alon! |
Sincerely, |

VEGGI Co-op Indiegogo CampaignOur friends and Thursday market vendors from the VEGGI Farm Co-op are hosting an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a solar power project for their farm. With solar power they’re hoping to power a walk-in cooler for their growers, help with pumping water, and serve as a back up energy source in case of emergency. This organization is working to provide high quality food to the restaurants and families of New Orleans, and they’re doing lots of awesome community development work and youth empowerment in their own community in New Orleans East. Consider supporting them today. |
