Last Full Week of the Eat Local Challenge: Finish Strong at Market! | June 22, 2015

Fresh & Local

June is starting to wind down, but with 8 days left of the Eat Local Challenge it’s time to finish strong! Now is a bountiful time at market so come on out as much as you can this week and pick up all the locally grown, caught, and produced goods you’ll need to get you through. In addition to our four markets this week, we’ve got a special Eat Local Challenge event happening this Thursday: it’s the annual Local Foods Bingo at the Zeitgeist! This Thursday from 7-9pm we’ll be at the Zeitgeist Theater at 1618 O.C. Haley Blvd with all kinds of market-fresh prizes, local snacks and libations for all who want to come on out and play some bingo with us. This is always one of our favorite events every year and we can’t wait to get out there and do it again! So come on out and see at market this week to stock up on all those final ELC needs, and then come party with us at the Zeitgeist on Thursday! It sure is shaping up to be a great week.

pick of the week

Pick of the Week:
The New Orleans Musicians Clinic is challenging YOU to stay Hydrated!

The New Orleans Musicians Clinic is going to be out at market this Tuesday and Saturday letting people know about their upcoming 30 Day Water Challenge. Staying hydrated in the summer is so important, yet many people don’t keep their water bottles with them, or if they do don’t know how much they should be drinking every day. NOMC is working to change that and will be signing folks up for the challenge and giving out FMC water bottles to folks who make donations. For more information on the NOMC Hydration Challenge click here. And remember, bring your own cup or water bottle to market anytime and we’ll fill it up for you!

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special

We love having Lahpet out at market as our Green Plate Special vendors this month! They knocked it out the park last week with their lunch menu. From Thai Grilled Chicken to Catfish Laab and fresh Papaya salad everything on the menu was delicious. If you’ve yet to come out and get a taste of Burma with Lahpet, don’t miss out! Check their Facebook page here to check out their menu for tomorrow: Lahpet

Blueberries are starting to wind down, but we’ve still got em for the time being! While the grilling weather is good and the berries are still kicking around, give this Blueberry Barbeque Sauce recipe a shot to add some sweet tangy New Orleans flavor to your next cook-out!
