Fresh & Local:

Somewhere under the rainbow…

Have you been to our new market in the Bywater yet? If not, it’s high time you make your way over to check it out! Since opening in January, we’ve onboarded a number of new vendors, including T&R Dairy, VEGGI Farmers Co-Op, Hot Plants, and UB’s Fine Foods. You can expect to find lots of produce (strawberries, tomatoes, microgreens, salad mixes, carrots, broccoli, and lots more), fresh dairy and eggs, shrimp, and grass-fed beef. You can also find a number of value-added products like granola from Nut-N-Seedy, pickles from Pickled NOLA, ice cream from Just Delights, popsicles from Blue Tara, and plant-based treats from South of Eden. If you arrive hungry, be sure to head over to UB’s Fine Foods for made-to-order tacos and tortillas.

We’re located beneath the Rusty Rainbow Bridge just outside Crescent Park at the intersection of Piety and Chartres and open every Wednesday from 3-7pm. Come pick up some fresh goodies and enjoy a stroll in the park. See you soon!

Picks of the Week:

More Than a Market

Last week we had a meet-up for our Market Mommas Club at the Downtown market. New and returning moms who are part of this breastfeeding incentive program run by Market Umbrella were invited to join us for a cooking demo, giveaways, and chance to socialize with other breastfeeding moms. Market Mommas Club connects breastfeeding moms who utilize WIC and Medicaid with support groups around the city and gives $80 per month to participants to spend on food from our markets. We love watching moms forging connections and building community at the market, and are proud to provide programs that benefit families and farmers at the same time.

Get That Bread!

Exciting news for beloved Mid-City and Bywater vendor Levee Baking Co.— they have signed a lease for their very own brick and mortar! The bakery is located in the Irish Channel, and will open to the public soon. While this means that Levee will be taking a break from markets for a while, they hope to return very soon. Thanks for your love and support, and for helping this small business achieve their big dreams! Follow Levee on social media for updates on their progress and whereabouts.

Vendor of the Week:

VEGGI Farmers Co-op

VEGGI Farmer’s Cooperative is comprised of local farmers and fisherfolk dedicated to providing the highest quality local produce and seafood to the Greater New Orleans area and beyond. VEGGI was established to alleviate the effects that the BP oil spill had on the Vietnamese community in New Orleans. With many community members losing their jobs because of the spill, VEGGI was developed to provide sustainable economic opportunities in urban agriculture for its members.

In recent news, VEGGI has expanded to more markets! You can now find your favorite tofu, chili oil, mung bean buns, and soy milk at five markets every week-- Tuesday Uptown, Wednesday Bywater, Thursday Mid-City, Friday Bucktown, and Saturday Downtown.

Tuesday’s Green Plate Special:

Bua Thai Kitchen

Stop by the GPS this month for Bua Thai Kitchen! Bua Thai Kitchen offers authentic tastes and experiences of Thailand through creative, healthy plant-based dishes. Inspired by her experience living in Thailand, and by the power of plants, chef Ashley Weinstein Berner creates dishes using local produce. Everything will be available to go so you can stop by and grab your breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
