Fresh and Local

Pick of the WeekFeeling Jazzy!

We are deep into festival season and the city is booming with good food, music, and lively events all around town! Are you heading to Jazz Fest this weekend? Considering which day to go? This might help: we’re thrilled to announce that Crescent City Farmers Market will be hosting an exciting event at the Food Heritage Stage on Saturday, May 4th! In partnership with recent James Beard nominee Palm & Pine, we’ll be on stage for Seasonality: A Chat and Cooking Demonstration at 3:15 pm. Our Director of Markets, Stacy Hall, will be joined with Chefs/Owners Amarys Koenig Herndon and Jordan Herndon.

Come say hi and learn more about taking advantage of seasonal groceries! Don’t forget to stock up on seasonal snacks at any of this week’s markets in preparation. From strawberries to sugar snap peas, it’s always a good idea to have a few fresh foods to snack on after a long day parading around the festival grounds and indulging in all the rich delicacies of the iconic Jazz Fest!

Picks of the Week

Pick of the WeekGiveNOLA Day Countdown Begins

We’re a week out from GiveNOLA Day, May 7th, at the Tuesday Uptown Market! Can you help us reach our goal of $20,000? Visit our GiveNOLA page to learn more and to donate today!

We’ve announced a great day of programming on our Instagram and Facebook pages and we hope you can make it out for the fun! You can check out some of our vendor demos including La Vie En Rose and NOLA Botanical Tea, and watch local chefs battle it out in the CCFM Chopped Chef Challenge - preparing dishes with market ingredients found in the weekly CCFM Top Box home delivery! We’ll have live music by Tangiers Combo, and each donation ($10 minimum) at the GiveNOLA tent gets to spin the CCFM prize wheel! It’s going to be a special day and we hope to see you there.

Pick of the WeekJazz Fest Inspired Snackin’

Get inspired by the delicacies of Jazz Fest and try your hand at making some snacks and libations at home - with goodies from the market! You can grab strawberries from Jonhdales Farm or Faust Farms and make strawberry lemonade as you enjoy WWOZs live broadcast of the festival. If you are feeling especially ambitious, grab a pork butt from Pearl River Pastures or White Sand Homestead and roast it in the oven for a Cochon de Lait Po-boy! Sub crawfish for shrimp from either Pete and Clara’s or Anna Marie Seafood for your own at-home version of the famous Crawfish Monica. Although it may be spring in New Orleans, you can start to find the beginnings of summer produce at the market, like tomatoes, cucumbers, and summer squash!

Pick of the WeekCinco De Mayo at the Sunday City Park Market

This Sunday is Cinco de Mayo! In honor of the day of celebration, we spoke with Hugo from longtime CCFM vendor Casa Borrega. “Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of color, culture, and engagement through the crucial elements of Mexican culture, fiesta dance, food and drinks. I feel proud that this misunderstood Mexican Holiday represents the whole Latino community in the USA - vibrant, exuberant and eclectic community."

Swing by the Casa Borrega booth where Hugo will be serving up breakfast tacos in traditional costume, and prepping for an afternoon of live music at their brick and mortar on Oretha Castle Haley! Also check out the homemade tortilla chips and salsa from Isabel’s Tamales and Produce - they’re guaranteed to garner yums and praise at any party you bring them to.

Check out our recent write up on Nola.com for more information on the delicious variety of prepared food choices now available!
