Putting the Work in Labor Day

The first Monday of September marks Labor Day, which falls on September 5 this year! Many of us know Labor Day as a reason to host sweet gatherings and delicious cookouts. This Labor Day, we honor the resiliency and strength of all who work in agriculture. Small-scale farmers are up against a lot: climate change, land loss, mass agriculture, and more. Your purchases at Crescent City Farmers Markets are direct, financial support for the people and organizations that work every day for the love of food and people. Shopping at Crescent City Farmers Market helps all of us––vendors, staff, and community––build a public market for public good. There is endless strength in unity, and Labor Day helps us remember that!

September Marketeer Club Meet-up!

Marketeers Club is a free membership program for market shoppers under 12. Members are invited to participate in monthly market activities and they will receive a special token of appreciation on their birthday. To become a member fill out this simple membership form. Please join us for our upcoming event, Sunday September 4th at New Orleans City Park, Tad Gormley Stadium parking lot on Marconi Drive at Navarre Avenue 8:00 am - Noon. Last month we celebrated National Farmers Market Week by writing letters of appreciation to the vendors who make our market possible. Kids will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on activities, as well as enjoy various themed activity sheets. Find out this month's activity by stopping at the programs tent this Sunday! Parking at Market

Crescent City Farmers Market is excited to welcome visitors to our markets and wants to ensure that they are a safe and seamless experience for all involved including residents of the neighborhood. Visitors are encouraged to observe the parking options and restrictions surrounding each market, which for our Thursday Mid-City Market includes no parking on the uptown side of Lafitte Avenue and for our Sunday City Park Market includes no parking on Marconi Drive in areas with diagonal white parking lines. For our Tuesday Uptown Market, customers may enter the Tulane parking lot from Broadway or Leake Ave.

Too Tall Farms

Maggie Kaiser and Jacob Ingalls started Too Tall Farm and Nursery in 2015 with the goal of supplying local growers and gardens with a variety of vegetable, herb, and edible flower starts grown in a natural way. As a trained and experienced doula and perinatal health advocate, Maggie is very interested in growing medicinal herbs and especially those that support folks during pregnancy and postpartum. Some of her favorite plants are tulsi, skullcap, spilanthes, nettles, and nasturtiums as well as other crops like turmeric, hibiscus roselle, ginger, and leafy greens. Additionally, Maggie has been involved with several different organizing bodies pertaining to the local food system over the years, including supporting Margee Green with her run for Commissioner of Agriculture in 2019; working for the National Young Farmers Coalition to develop better agricultural policy for small farmers on a state and federal level; organizing with the Greater New Orleans Growers Alliance, the NOLA Food Policy Action Council, and Sprout Nola; and, most recently, working with Sprout and Cooperation New Orleans to research, write, and facilitate learning spaces for growers around agricultural cooperatives and collectivism in Louisiana. Get your fall garden going and keep an eye out for romanesco broccoli starts - a new, exciting addition to their nursery!
