Moonlight Market! | April 3, 2023

Fresh & Local:

Moonlight Market!

On April 20th, Market Umbrella will host our first fundraising event since the pandemic: Moonlight Market! A new take on a much-loved event we hosted in the past, for Moonlight Market we invited more than ten local New Orleans pop-ups and restaurants to create and serve one-of-a-kind dishes with local ingredients! After sampling Moonlight Market dishes, guests will vote for their favorite.

Participating restaurants and pop-ups include: Alma Cafe, Catawampus, Chef Shonda Fine Dining to Go, Fresh Fruit Sensations, Greta's Sushi, KD's NOLA Treats, La Vie En Rose Cafe, Milkfish, Marjie's Grill, Pizza Domenica, Rendez-Vous Creole Restaurant, and Txow Txow!

Culinary influences from across the globe meet at Moonlight Market. All courses are represented, from hors d'oeuvres to desserts! Moonlight Market will also have garden-to-glass cocktails, local beer, a silent auction, and live music by Lilli Lewis! Proceeds from this event will support the Crescent City Farmers Market, which hosts more than 75 food-producing families and provides fresh food access for a growing community of local eaters. Ticket sales are $40 in advance; click here to buy tickets to Moonlight Market!

Picks of the Week:

Meet Me at the Market is back!

We are happy to announce the return of our Meet me at the Market program! Meet Me at the Market was created to increase children’s knowledge and appreciation of locally grown fruits and vegetables. Students will have the opportunity to meet farmers at the Crescent City Farmers market, learn about seasonality and how plants grow, taste Louisiana produce, and be able to identify the health benefits of eating local fruits and vegetables. There are two components to this program: an in class lesson facilitated by Market Umbrella/CCFM staff on Monday and another that brings students to our Uptown Tuesday market. If you are interested in having your students participate in this program, please contact our Director of Community Nutrition Programs, Brittani Nelson, via email at brittani@marketumbrella.org or via phone at (504) 861-4485.

No Market on Easter!

The Sunday market at City Park will be closed this coming Sunday, April 9th for the holiday. Stock up for your holiday feast at our Tuesday Uptown 4/4 and Thursday Mid-City 4/6 markets!

Parking Rules for City Park

At Crescent City Farmers Market, we are excited to welcome visitors to our markets! We want to create a safe and seamless experience for market participants and residents of the surrounding neighborhoods!

When parking at any market, please pay attention to any nearby street signs. For our Sunday City Park market, parking is not allowed on Marconi Drive in areas with diagonal white parking lines or on the neutral ground. Parking on the neutral ground and in these restricted areas jeopardizes our ability to host a market at this location! Please adhere to the parking guidelines so that we all may continue to enjoy the Sunday market at City Park.

Vendor of the Week:

La Vie En Rose Cafe

Meet Kirby Jones, the owner of La Vie En Rose! Kirby, a former vendor with the markets’ Green Plate Special, is excited to join the Crescent City Farmers Market as a full-time vendor at the Sunday City Park Market serving up Creole coffee cold brew blends, seasonal cakes, and pastries. What started out as a bike cafe popup at Martin’s Wine Cellar has bloomed into a flourishing business for the mother of two. With deep roots in New Orleans Creole culture dating back to the 1800s, Kirby first fell in love with coffee when her grandmother, who lived across the street from the sugarcane fields in Lutcher, LA, handed her a cup of coffee and bunny bread to dip in it. Be sure to stop by La Vie En Rose’s table and check out their cold brew and one-of-a-kind cakes and pastries!

Recipe of the Week:

Carrot Cake Pancakes

What’s not to love about carrots? They’re vibrant, affordable, have an impressively long shelf-life, and are loaded with beta-carotene, a natural chemical that the body changes into vitamin A. Just a single carrot can provide someone with double their daily dose of Vitamin A. Interestingly, carrots are more nutritious when they are cooked than when they are eaten raw. This essentially means that you must try these spring-inspired, healthy & delicious carrot cake pancakes! This easy-to-follow pancake recipe from jar of lemons promises to be sweet, fluffy, and the perfect solution to breakfast decision fatigue. Top the pancakes off with cream cheese frosting, and grab some pecans at market for a heart-healthy and flavor-elevating addition!

What’s your favorite dish to make after visiting the Crescent City Farmers Market? Share your recipes with us on Instagram or Facebook and it might be featured in our weekly newsletter!
