SNAC convenes to support the implementation
of state & local health initiatives

Louisiana has officially convened a State Nutrition Action Council (SNAC). This statewide council will be facilitated through collaborative efforts by the Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) and Greaux the Good. The group held its first meeting on Friday, September 15th, 2023, and will be meeting on a monthly basis. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) is supporting the implementation of state and local initiatives to transform communities to make healthy eating and active living accessible to everyone. FNS has prioritized and required the formation of SNAC to identify solutions to the most pressing issues in their respective states. SNACs serve as a model for uniting state programs around nutrition education, obesity prevention efforts, and improvement of community health as partnerships and collaboration are essential to reaching statewide solutions.

The SNAC will be one of the working groups under the Greaux the Good’s Community Partners Council which was established in February of this year. The purpose of the Community Partners Council is to bring together community/faith-based organizations and agencies from across Louisiana to help support the program, its partners, and other stakeholders.

There are several fun volunteer opportunities at CCFM, including counting visitor foot traffic, recording customer behavior, and helping out with Halloween activities at market. Volunteers get to spend the day connecting with local food producers, businesses, and community partners that make our markets and food access work possible. Thank you for helping us raise $3,391 for Edgar Mendez! Over the past month, Edgar has started up his very own small business, making eagle pictures. He’s super excited about sharing his pictures with his classmates, friends, and community and to have something to entertain him while he undergoes dialysis. As a third-generation fisherman, Lance Nacio, owner of Anna Marie Seafood, is proud to have served the Crescent City farmers market community for the last 20 years. Building a legacy where tradition meets innovation, Anna Marie has been in operation since 1997 and has since then prioritized producing “good, clean, and wholesome food”. Lance grew up an hour outside the city in Lafourche Parish, where he learned from his grandfather and father how to make a living from the land and sustainably fish and hunt.
